Year 6 Reading workshop and book tasting session
We held another parental Reading workshop and book tasting session on Wednesday 19th October. Mrs Groves explained how Reading is taught in Year 6 and provided parents with information on recommended reads for their children, how they can support at home with the reading bookmarks which detail questions and thought prompts that can be used when reading takes place, and the 'reading challenge' which Year 6 are completing this year to see how many books they can read across a range of genres. Children shared their Guided Reading work with their parents and carers and the adults were given chance to read with their child and explore a wide range of genres and new book releases. Any Reading workshop at Annie Lennard wouldn't be complete without the obligatory squash and biscuits! A valuable morning for all! "I enjoyed seeing all the different types of books that (my daughter) likes." "I learnt that (she) loves to read - I will encourage her to read different types of books too." "I found it useful to see the variety of Reading books available in school." "I enjoyed just spending time to hear my child read." "I'll be logging on to the on-line book service." "It was great to see what books Year 6 are reading and the variety available." "The list of books is a great tool to use at home." "The school is helpful all year round."
