Friday 25th March 2022
On Wednesday 23rd March, we had another fabulous morning at our Reception Literacy workshop and Stay & Play! Mrs Brookes and Mrs Day, our Reception teachers, delivered a very informative workshop to parents on how we deliver Literacy in Reception at Annie Lennard and how children can be supported at home. Parents were then given the opportunity to play alongside their child in the Reception environment, both indoors and outdoors, experiencing first-hand the sort of activities children engage in on a daily basis to support Literacy skills. Staff were on hand to answer any questions and support where needed. It was a lovely morning for all!
Year 5 Reading parent workshop and book tasting session
On Friday 25th March, Year 5 parents and carers were invited into school for a Reading workshop and book tasting session. Mrs Groves provided lots of information on the Year 5 requirements for Reading in the National Curriculum and how we are meeting those criteria in school and what parents can do to support their child at home. Parents were given a Reading bookmark detailing lots of questions and prompts parents can use when hearing their child read at home as well as detailed handout with information ranging from lots of tips on book recommendations to the requirements for SATs at the end of Year 6. If any parents were unable to make the workshop and would like the handout and Reading bookmark, please see Mrs Groves or Mrs Kirk.
The second part of the morning was devoted to 'book tasting' where the children got to share a range of books of different genres with their adults, obviously accompanied by squash and biscuits! Here's what some of the Year 5 parents had to say... "Informative information given." "The information on what (the children) are expected to do in Reading and how the parent can help achieve it was useful." "Great information about new books to read and the criteria for SATs." "I enjoyed the one to one time at school and seeing all the books (my child) is into." " I loved hearing her and her friend read!" "Very fun!" "It was great to be able to hear my child read back in school."
